The Lowdown on Low Back Pain
(and Other Aches)

How can I treat my carpal tunnel syndromes?

Carpal tunnel syndromes are often treated without surgery. Most cases of carpal tunnel syndrome are caused by repetitive activities at the office so the first intervention is to rearrange one's office. An ergonomist can rearrange the computer, phones and desk to help remove the cause of the pain. If that does not help, splinting is often curative. The splints may only be needed at night and for a short period. If everything else fails, the surgery works about 95% of the time. It is done in outpatient centers and only takes about 20 minutes. Recovery time is usually a few weeks.
