The Lowdown on Low Back Pain
(and Other Aches)

What are my options if I have back problems but don't want surgery?

Patients with low back pain can opt for exercise, injections, acupuncture, chiropractic or any of a variety of alternative therapies. I fact, one should ordinarily try every other possible option before signing up for surgery. Conversely, if the other treatments do fail, surgery can cure leg pain in up to 95% of patients and back pain in up to 80%. Minimally invasive techniques have converted once major surgeries into outpatient procedures. Simple discectomy, for example, takes about 45 minutes and does not require hospitalization.
